Temora High School sent a team of athletes to the Riverina Athletics carnival in Albury on the 12th of August. The carnival had been postponed from an earlier date, and athletes were keen to get into the competition on the day.
Many personal bests were recorded, and many students were selected to attend the NSW CHS athletics in Sydney on the 7th, 8th and 9th of September.
Athletes who placed first or second in an event earned their way into the Riverina team.
Sophie Bowley was Temora's best performer, placing in 4 events
Girls 200 Meter Dash 12 Years 29.29 (1)
Girls 100 Meter Dash 12 Years 14.55 (1)
Girls Discus Throw 750gms 12 Years 14.90m (2)
Girls Long Jump 12 Years 3.92m (2)
Will Shuttleworth recorded two events in the top two:
Boys Javelin Throw 15 Years 30.40m (2), and
Boys Triple Jump 15 & Under 11.53m (1)
Damian Wells also secured a place in the team with two second places.
Boys Shot Put 3kg 13 Years 10.52m 10.48m
Boys Discus Throw 1kg 13 Years 28.72m 27.00m
Ruby Watterson placed second in the 12 years girls 800m in a time of 3:01.12 also earning her a place in the team.
The girls 12 years relay team of Sophie Bowley, Kasey Shea, Katie Holmes and Ruby Watterson placed 2nd, 1:03.23, as did the 15 years girls team, of Eva Reichstein, Zardiah McCausland-Keith, Kimberly Jordan and Emily Buerkner, in 57.74.
The 15 years boys team of Lachlan Leary, Will Shuttleworth, Bernard Ricketts and Harrison Weir placed first in their event in a time of 50.55.
All of these athletes will be preparing for their next event in three weeks time.
