NSW CHS Athletics
Five Temora High individuals, and three relay teams competed in the NSW CHS athletics championships in Homebush in early September. This carnival sees two competitors from each of the 10 NSW Combined High Schools sporting regions compete against each other. The competition was extremely strong, as competitors are chosen from all government schools across the state.
Sophie Bowley competed in the 12 years' girls 100 and 200m events as well as discus and long jump, while Eva Reichstein competed in the 15 years' girls long jump, and Ruby Watterson in the 12 years' girls 800m.
Sophie was successful in gaining a place in the final of the 100m, where she placed 9th in 13.85sec. In the 200 she was 17th in 30.14sec, long jump 12th with a jump of 4.23m, and discus 19th with 16.23m.
Eva jumped 4.77m to place 11th in the long jump, while Ruby was unable to complete her event due to sickness.
Will Shuttleworth competed in the 15 years' boys triple jump, and came 14th with a jump of 10.63m. He also threw the javelin 34.29m to be placed 15th.
Year 7 student Damian Wells putted the shot 11.55m to be placed 12th, and then threw the discus 27.44m to place 10th.
The 12 years' girls relay team of Sophie Bowley, Ruby Watterson, Kasey Shea and Katie Holmes ran 63.27sec to place 12th.
The 15 years' girls team of Zardiah McCausland-Keith, Helen McLaren, Emily Buerckner and Eva Reichstein ran a time of 56.48sec and placed 14th, while the 15 years' boys team of Lachlan Leary, Will Shuttleworth, Bernard Ricketts and Harrison Weir ran themselves into 14th position with a time of 50.27sec.
